Eating Healthy at the Theme Park |

With the rides, games and, best of all, roller coasters, theme parks have something for everyone. They also have thousands of food choices from French fries to ice cream and hotdogs to quesadillas, making healthy eating a challenge. Here’s are some suggestions to help you and your family eat well and feel your best before hopping on the next great thrill ride.
Step 1: Plan ahead and pack snacks Eat a healthy breakfast before you head out for the day. Not only will it fuel you for the additional miles you’ll log trekking from one end of the park to the other, but you’ll also be less tempted by snack stands until lunchtime rolls around. If you can, look at the food choices online before you leave home. This way, you can plan your day in advance so you end up near healthy food options when it’s time to eat. Also, pack snacks or even lunch. While many theme parks won’t let you take outside food into the park, many times you can leave and return with a hand stamp or wristband. Pack your own lunch and you’ll save cash and calories. Step 2: Stay hydrated Many times our body signals hunger when, in fact, it’s actually dehydrated. When you’re hitting the amusement park during hot summer months, it’s even more important to remain hydrated. Avoid sugary sodas that will actually cause further dehydration and take bottled water instead. If you don’t want to carry your own bottle from ride to ride, pick one up at the park. Most vendors now offer water, which is always the healthiest choice. Step 3: Look for healthy options or ask about menu substitutions With more Americans looking for healthy food options, amusement parks are including them on the menu. Submarine sandwiches or deli wraps are a great alternative to cheeseburgers and pizza. However, if you’re still having trouble, ask for a substitution to the menu, like a veggie or turkey burger instead of a hamburger.
